What to Wear for Your College Graduation Photoshoot
Your graduation photos are more than just pictures—they're memories captured forever. Whether you're walking across Samford Lawn at Auburn University or standing in front of the iconic President's Mansion at the University of Alabama, what you wear plays a huge role in the final look of your portraits.
Here’s our expert guide to choosing the perfect outfit for your college graduation session.
1. Dress With Purpose (and Personality)
Think elevated classics: a white dress with clean lines, a flowy maxi skirt, or a crisp jumpsuit. These timeless options photograph beautifully against any Auburn backdrop. Want to make it more personal? Add subtle pops of your personality through accessories.
2. Bring Two Looks—At Least
We recommend one formal and one casual outfit to add variety to your gallery. For example, a tailored look in a solid color + a more relaxed outfit in school colors or college jersey. This allows us to capture the full story of your personality.
3. Coordinate Your Cap and Gown Thoughtfully
Plan your look around the traditional cap and gown (don’t worry—we’ll guide you!). Neutrals like white, ivory, navy, or blush pair beautifully with Auburn’s burnt orange and navy. University of Alabama grads often like the look of white, black or red for their photo sessions. Avoid bold prints that distract from your face and gown.
4. Choose Flattering Fabrics and Fits
Lightweight, structured fabrics that move with you (but not too much) are ideal. We also love natural materials that feel breathable, especially for outdoor sessions in Alabama’s spring and summer heat.
5. Accessorize with Intention
Delicate jewelry (and class ring of course), timeless heels, and manicured nails add polish without overwhelming your look. If you’re unsure, we are happy to help - just let us know!
